The examination of live blood, by dark-field microscopy, is used as an integral part in the assessment of the regulation capacity of the patient. Biological holistic medicine as practiced by Dr. Rau considers health deficits as a disruption in the dynamic regulation process and not as an isolated disruption within an organ of the body.
Dynamic processes such as total body metabolic processes, regulation processes and adaptability are the deciding criteria for the health of people. These processes and adaptability can be assessed well by examination of live blood using dark-field microscopy.
A drop of blood is taken from the patient and without colorization is directly examined under the microscope. The blood is placed directly on the objective slide, is covered with a cover slide and the fresh capillary blood is examined at a magnification of 400-1000x. Putting the live blood under glass and subjecting it to light results in a strong oxidative stress of the cells and plasma which allows conclusions to be drawn about the condition of the cells and the “milieu” (internal “milieu” is the internal environment; that being the fluids, blood and lymph, bathing the cells), in other words conclusions about the resistance capacity of the cells in relation to changes in oxygen level and redox potential. When the examination is carried out over a longer time period the tendency for degeneration of the blood and the cells can be identified. The objective slide remains in place under the microscope for a number of hours and this can lead to observed changes in the “milieu” and cells and the possible observable development of bacterial infections. Hardly any other examination method can show so well the changes in the “milieu” relating to the acid and base metabolism, redox potential and resistance of the cell walls as well as the toxic processes in the leucocytes.
This method can additionally be used for assessment of the protein utilization in the cells, activity of the leucocytes and also the tendency for degeneration and malignancy. Although the examination by dark-field microscopy of live blood is not accepted by conventional medicine this technique is one of the most important in the sphere of Biological Medicine as practiced by Dr. Rau and also for therapists using pleomorphic therapy (SANUM).
It is a fantastic yet simple examination technique which allows conclusions to be drawn for:
- “Milieu” test and stress capacity of the blood cells
- Signs of alterations in the acid-base balance, especially blood alkalinity
- Activity or toxic load of the white blood cells
- Signs of inflammation, visible in changes to the blood platelets
- Indication of damage to the process of uptake of iron

- Indicative estimation of the cellular energetic situation
- The tendency for bacterial infections and immune reactions to infections become visible
- It indicates when it is necessary to give antibiotic treatment; antibiotics are now more targeted and not just blindly prescribed.
- Very effective alternatives are isopathic products from SANUM.
Hardly any other examination process allows for so many speedy conclusions about the dynamic processes in the body, depending on the experience of the examining professional. This dynamic is the important element in the assessment of a patient as opposed to the static and organ based approach.
